Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)

St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka recently purchased an Endobronchial Ultrasound thanks to the generous donations from the community to the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation.

The Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) consists of an ultrasound device attached to a thin, malleable instrument (a bronchoscope). During the procedure, the patient is placed under local anesthetic and the physician guides the bronchoscope into the patient’s mouth and down the trachea. The ultrasound device takes real-time images and displays them on a monitor in the operating room. The physician can pass a very thin needle (a transbronchial needle aspiration) down the bronchoscope to take a sample of the lung tissue or lymph nodes for further testing.

Interventional Pulmonary Medicine

Our expertise includes the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, including:

  • Fluoroscopic Bronchoscopy
  • Airway Stenting
  • Brachytherapy
  • Photodynamic Therapy
Most of these procedures are performed with bronchoscopy, a procedure that allows our specialists to look inside your lungs through a thin viewing instrument called a bronchoscope. Bronchoscopy is used for both accurate diagnosis and treatment of a variety of lung conditions.
