As of 10/9/19, 8:00 a.m.

As expected, PG&E interrupted power early this morning around 1:15 AM and both Redwood Memorial Hospital and St Joseph Hospital are now on generator power.

Systems are functioning well overall. Caregivers are doing a wonderful job taking care of patients in a calm and professional manner.

St. Joseph Health, Humboldt County has been made aware that PG&E may preemptively shut off of power in Humboldt County between 12:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, due to the high risk of wildfires in Northern California. If power is interrupted as expected, it will most likely be out until Thursday or Friday, depending on the winds and weather.

We have been in constant communication with PG&E, Office of Emergency Services, local fire departments, County Emergency Services Authorities and are well prepared for the PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff to go into effect tonight.

During a power outage, back-up generators at Redwood Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital will provide power for core services at each hospital and we will continue to deliver high-quality care to our patients.

In order to focus that care to our patients in the hospital, some elective, non-emergent procedures and services will be effected by the outage.

At this time, we continue to await confirmation from PG&E on the outage. As always, patient safety is our highest priority and we are committed to the health, safety, and well-being of our patients.
