St. Joseph Health -- Humboldt County to Preview New 3-D Mammography Machine

Eureka, CA (May 10, 2016) – St. Joseph Health – Humboldt County is offering community members a sneak-peek of its new 3-D mammography machine Wednesday, May 11 at the St. Joseph Health General Hospital campus in Eureka.

The new Hologic 3D Mammography mobile unit—to be purchased by the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation later this summer through grants and the support of generous donors—will be parked in the South Parking Lot of the General Hospital campus, at 2200 Harrison Avenue in Eureka (see map attached). Members of the public are invited to stop by and take a tour of the new unit from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“We’re excited to finally be able to bring the next generation of breast cancer screening technology to the North Coast,” said Paul McGinty, VP of Philanthropy for the St. Joseph Hospital and Redwood Memorial Foundations. “3-D mammography will not only help us find breast cancer earlier but will also allow us to detect cancers that might be missed with 2-D mammography alone.”

The machine will be purchased this summer with funds raised by the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation through grants, and charitable contributions, including donations from the Foundation’s annual Dinner & Auction June 3 in Loleta.

The St. Joseph Hospital Foundation helps support the development of charitable contributions and enhances community awareness of involvement opportunities with the hospital. Funds support the hospital’s priority capital needs, core programs, health education and new initiatives.
