St. Joseph Hospital's Cancer Program received a generous donation on January 24th from the owners of Myrtle Avenue Pet Center in Eureka. Larry and Melanie Noe, along with Melanie's mother Joyce Gross, presented a check for $5,000 to help support cancer care at St. Joseph Hospital.

Joyce Gross was treated for both breast cancer and lung cancer at St. Joseph Hospital. She and her daughter and son-in-law wanted to find a way to give back to ensure others also have access to cancer care. "It's amazing you can get this excellent treatment here. Traveling out of the area wasn't an option for my mom," says Melanie. Following a successful open house in December at their business, Myrtle Avenue Pet Center, the three of them decided to make the donation.

St. Joseph Hospital's Cancer Program has been recognized by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons as offering the very best in cancer care and treatment. St. Joseph & Redwood Memorial Hospital Hospitals and St. Joseph Home Care, together with community partners, form a comprehensive team offering care, support and information for cancer patients and their families. Our mission is to reduce morbidity and mortality from cancer.

"We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Melanie and Larry," said Christian Hill, Area Development Officer, who accepted the check on behalf of the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation. "Cancer touches just about everyone in this community in some shape or form, and the Noe's gift is just another example of the community coming together to keep quality cancer care here in Humboldt County."
