Free mole screening during Melanoma Awareness Month in May

Eureka (May 6, 2013) - Now that spring is here we have more daylight hours and that means many of us are anxious to start spending more time in the great outdoors. Whether it be gardening, playing sports, hitting the beach or walking the dog, it also means more sun exposure.

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, each year there are more new cases of skin cancer than the combined incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon. Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer. Protecting yourself from this potentially deadly disease involves applying sunscreen and wearing sun-protective clothing, frequently checking your skin to look for changes in moles and seeing a physician every year for a full examination.

In observation of May being Melanoma Awareness Month, Dr. Farshad Dana at Humboldt Medical Specialists – Dermatology at 2350 Buhne Street, Suite B in Eureka is holding a free mole check/screening on Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment or referral is needed. No other procedures or tests are included in the free screening.

Dr. Dana is a dermatologist who offers both medical and surgical dermatological services including treatment for skin cancer (prevention, diagnosis and removal), rosacea, acne, psoriasis and hair and nail disorders. He is a member of both the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.
