2013 Annual Health, Wellness & Resource Fair scheduled for Feb. 2

Eureka (Jan. 23, 2013) – St. Joseph and Redwood Memorial Hospital hospitals will present their annual Health, Wellness & Resource Fair on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bayshore Mall in Eureka.

The health fair will feature booths from various departments at St. Joseph and Redwood Memorial Hospital hospitals, offering free and low-cost health testings (cholesterol, glucose, anemia, blood pressure and bone density), free flu shots while supplies last, vouchers for low-cost blood draws, health information, and more. Several local physicians will also be at the event answering health questions from community members. Additionally, local health and safety agencies will have educational and informational booths at the fair.

New this year is a giant, inflatable colon that will be on display in the mall's center court. Community members are encouraged to walk through the colon to learn about colon health. Hospital staff will also be available to answer any questions.

A limited number of low-cost blood draw vouchers will be available for those wanting to make appointments for a complete blood analysis, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) and Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) screenings. Vouchers will be distributed during the health fair on Feb. 2. The cost of the blood draws are as follows: $20 for a basic metabolic panel; $20 for a hemogram; $25 for a lipid panel; $30 for PSA and $25 for TSH. The coupons can be used to schedule an appointment for a blood draw at St. Joseph Hospital's Outpatient Lab. The McKinleyville and Eureka Senior Resource Centers will also have a limited supply of low-cost blood draw vouchers available following the event for those unable to make it to the health fair.
