About St. Joseph Health, Humboldt County
St. Joseph Health, Humboldt County (SJHS-HC) is committed to meeting the
highest standards in health care delivery while ministering to the needs
of the whole person – body, mind and spirit. This commitment to
the people of the North Coast is expressed in the St. Joseph Health System's
five core values -
Compassion, Dignity, Justice, Excellence, and Integrity.
The health care ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange began in
Humboldt County during the flu epidemic of 1918. The Sisters opened the
first St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka in 1920 and committed to continually
improving the health and quality of life of the people served. This commitment
continues today and has been further defined by the vision of the SJHS-HC
- to bring people together to provide compassionate care, promote health
improvement, and create healthy communities.
There are nearly 1,400 individuals working for SJH-HC, making it one of
the largest employers in Humboldt County. Our employees are the most valuable
assets in assuring the provision of the highest quality health care, and
they, together with our volunteers, donors, and community partners help
us continue to fulfill our vision.
We are pleased to share our extraordinary ministry with you as well as
the unique
community programs that go beyond traditional hospital services - including our
Community Resource Centers in Blue Lake, Eureka, Loleta, Rio Dell and Willow Creek.
In addition to the two hospitals (details below), SJH-HC has an Outpatient
Imaging Center in Eureka. The Center is designed to provide patients with
more convenient services in comfortable, completely self-contained settings.
