Our Cancer Program has been recognized by the Commission on Cancer (CoC)
of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as offering the very best in
cancer care and treatment.
Together with our community partners, St. Joseph Health – Humboldt
County and St. Joseph Home Care form a comprehensive team offering expert
preventative care, cancer treatment support, and medical information for
cancer patients, their families, and survivors.
Community Needs Assessment
St. Joseph Health – Humboldt County brings together cancer services
extending beyond the traditional doctor-patient relationship. Our cancer
services start with a range of screening options for early detection and
extend through personalized treatment following diagnosis—enabling
you to take charge of your health.

to better suit the needs of patients and families in our communities.

Get answers to your questions. We’re here to listen to you.
What are the potential side effects of chemotherapy? Will I be able to
recover after radiation therapy? Will my healthcare insurance cover the
cost of cancer treatment? These are all very serious and very poignant
questions that many cancer patients will spend countless, sleepless nights
Whether you are about to enter into cancer treatment or are currently in
the tail-end of your cancer treatment journey, we know that there can
be a lot of concerns and anxieties. The world is full of plenty of uncertainties,
but we want you to feel as comfortable and confident as possible. We would
love to discuss treatment options, or address any of your concerns as
you move forward in your journey towards reclaiming your health.
Taking an Integrative Approach to Healing
At St. Joseph Hospital, we are committed to providing you with a level
of care that ensures the preservation of your quality of life. By perfecting
our surgical procedures, many of our patients can enjoy the same results
of cancer surgery without the disfiguring aftermath. In fact, we routinely
perform surgical treatment of prostate and colon cancer, and can preserve
breast tissue by performing lumpectomy surgery on patients.
Collaboration with Stanford Cancer Institute
To provide our patients with the best in cancer care and treatment, we
have developed an important collaborative relationship with the Stanford
Cancer Institute. The Institute provides visiting professors who share
their expertise and best practices with St. Joseph medical staff, consult
on complex cases, and provide supportive care. This collaboration gives
us formal and informal direct access to world class resources to ensure
the best patient outcomes. Some of these resources include free medical
library access for full-text articles from all journals, telemedicine
subspecialty tumor boards, and help with clinical trial participation.
