Redwood Memorial Hospital’s Mini Health Fair this Saturday

10/02/2013

Fortuna (October 2, 2013) – On Saturday, Oct. 5, apple fans will get a taste of their own medicine if they stop by Redwood Memorial Hospital's Mini Health Fair. The event will be held at the Rohner Rec Hall in Fortuna from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This year, the health fair will coincide with Fortuna's annual Apple Harvest Festival and the fair's central location in Rohner Park means community residents can stop by on their way to other activities. At the health fair, community residents will have the opportunity to learn about their health and receive free and low-cost medical testing while doubling up the fun at the Apple Harvest Festival.

Among the free and low-cost medical testing available are bone density, blood pressure checks, fingerstick cholesterol, body fat and blood glucose tests. Coupons for low-cost blood draws, which includes these tests – basic metabolic panel, hemogram, lipid panel, PSA and thyroid stimulating hormone - will also be available for pick-up, with the actual testing to be offered at a later date at Redwood Memorial Hospital. No blood draws will be offered at this event. New this year is also a free head and neck cancer screening provided by Radiation Oncologist Join Luh, MD, and Otolaryngologist Gregory Barkdull, MD. The screening is quick, non-invasive and involves checking the inside of your mouth as well as feeling your throat and face.

"Health fairs are an opportunity for community residents to receive up-to-date health information, multiple free health tests, and learn more about living healthier lifestyles," said Laurie Garrison, director of nursing at Redwood Memorial Hospital. "It's important for people to have access to free and low-cost health testing and other resources. Through the

mini health fair, Redwood Memorial Hospital further demonstrates its commitment to creating healthiest communities here in the Eel River Valley."
